Our firm has been established in its present form since 1992 and is still under the day to day control of the founding principal, Des Ward.

Des is assisted by two staff surveyors, Darren Simmonds in the Whitsunday area and Steve Eiszele in Cairns.

Helen Keen - has managed the Whitsunday office since 1994 and is the first point of contact for most clients. She has achieved a high level of insurance qualifications in recent years (ANZIIF - Senior Associate and CIP).

Between us we have considerable experience in ship operations and surveying both worldwide and in our region.

Des Ward has nearly 30 years experience as a marine superintendent and surveyor, with his experience gained originally in Europe and the Caribbean before settling in Queensland some 20 years ago. His particular area of expertise is casualty investigation and marine underwriter services – especially in remote areas. He is also a private pilot and aircraft owner which can facilitate our prompt attendance at serious casualties and at reasonable cost from time to time.

Darren Simmonds started his career with 9 years in the Royal Australian Navy and went on to gain experience in ferry operations and “white” boats in Europe and North America. As a qualified shipwright Darren’s knowledge of construction and repair techniques and vessel refitting is of considerable value to his career as a surveyor.

Steve Eiszele has more than 20 years commercial marine experience. This was initially gained in tugs, fishing vessels, and rig tenders before Steve became involved in the Cairns marine tourism industry in 1992 and became the General Manager of one of the largest marine operators in the area with a staff of 82. Steve completed his Certificate IV in Commercial Marine Surveying at the Australian Maritime College in 2004.

All three surveyors have qualifications as commercial masters and engineers, and all are qualified yachtmasters and divers. Between them they have a wide variety of other qualifications and experience in areas such as Workplace Health and Safety, Fire Fighting, and First Aid.

We maintain a high level of Professional Indemnity and other appropriate business insurances, details of which are available on request.

Our client base is small but loyal and we have established a significant track record of providing a high standard of underwriter services over many years. References are available on request.
